To prevent fine airborne paint mist escaping into the workplace, all paint booths/rooms should be run at a slightly lower air pressure than the surroundings so that any air is drawn into the booth or room. This is commonly referred to as running at 'negative pressure'.
Exhaust filters (also known as paint overspray arrestors) work by capturing over sprayed coatings before they're exhausted into the environment to reduce shop emissions. During spray jobs in a paint booth, the exhaust system must draw substantial quantities of air out of the shop in order to operate.
